On Saturday the 27th
March at 10.30am members from the four
generations of Girl Guiding Norfolk (Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and the Trefoil
Guild) will be taking part in a tree planting ceremony in Hunstanton to mark the start of the
Britain in Bloom campaign as well as mark the centenary of Girl Guiding.
The
group will be planting approx 100 multi-stem silver birch trees in the
community to increase the number of sustainable plants and trees in the local
area (also coinciding with the International Year of Biodiversity). These particular trees have been chosen as
they are native to the coastal environment and so will thrive in the area, they
will also grow to a manageable size which is suitable for the centre’s central
location in the town.
This year we held a
Special Centenary Thinking Day in North West Norfolk with about 280 Rainbows,
Brownies, Guides, Leaders and Trefoil Guild taking part, Hunstanton had the
honour of hosting this prestigious event and this took place at Manor Park on
the 21st February. A
competition was held to design a North West Norfolk Thinking Day Badge the
winner was a Guide from 1st Snettisham Guides and everyone present
received a badge. We had the honour of
being visited by Hunstanton Town Mayor Christine Earnshaw and Girlguiding
Norfolk Assistant County Commissioner Pat Pinnington.
The service was in St Nicholas Church and started with us
walking down the isle carrying the guiding flags whilst everyone sang One More
Step along the World I Go. Once the flags were on the Alter, we sang Lord of
the Dance, All Things Bright and Beautiful and other hymns. There were many
readings from people as young as rainbows to those in Trefoil guild. The
service ended with The Whole World in His Hands as we collected the flags
again.
We celebrated Thinking Day en masse at a very special
service in Norwich Cathedral on Saturday 20 February. The service, organised by
the Norfolk Trefoil Guild was a mixture of old and new music, ably supported by
the Centenary Choir and the AD2000 Worship Band. There was a short but thought
provoking drama piece by girls from across the County, and a very
entertaining address led by Jenny Pathmarajah, County Faith Adviser. The
exchange of birthday cards to mark our 100th birthday was very
touching.
The happy, smiling faces at the end of the service was
proof indeed that everyone had a good time and it was lovely to see so many
friends, old and new. Well done to the Trefoil and everyone involved in the
organisation of the event.
Lots of other Thinking Day events have been
taking place around the County – do send us your photos and reports for the
website and Blue Sheet.
