Guiding is a game with a purpose. It’s so much more than a club for girls – it’s all about finding fun and friendship, taking up exciting challenges, helping other people and growing in self-confidence. Girlguiding Norfolk is the largest voluntary youth organisation in the county. We have around 8,400 members, including 1000 adult leaders and unit helpers, and there are nearly 500 units. Members can become Young Leaders from 14 and adult leaders from 18 to 65. The different sections of Girlguiding Norfolk are:
Being a Rainbow, Brownie or Guide can be a life changing experience, leading to fantastic opportunities to do new and different things. We are part of an international movement with 10 million members worldwide and 650,000 in the UK. Guiding in Norfolk is as popular today as it was when it began nearly 100 years ago. Robert Baden-Powell set up Scouting in 1907 and, following pressure from the girls, started the Girl Guides in 1910, with the help of his sister Agnes. Today, the movement is known as Girlguiding UK. Membership is growing all the time. Here in Norfolk there are over 750 on waiting-to-join lists, and we need more leaders to help them take up the opportunities we have to offer.
