For several years members and supporters have been raising and donating money towards a centre to house Girlguiding Norfolk’s valuable archives and make them accessible to all. This dream was realised in 2016 when a purpose built Archive Resource Centre (ARC) was completed. This is now home to our collection of historic resources.
In November 2017 we received the very exciting news that we had been awarded a Heritage Lottery grant of £60,000 to conserve and share our archive collection.
The award of Heritage Lottery funding will mean that the items at the ARC can be consolidated, catalogued, labelled, packed and stored to museum standards, with purpose-built storage facilities. It will also enable an outreach programme to be created to deliver traditions activities and make the collection accessible to the public for the first time, widening the use of the ARC for local members, the wider guiding community and members of the public.
We are delighted to have received this level of support from the Heritage Lottery, and are grateful also to a number of other organisations who have supported our project including Norfolk Community Foundation, Geoffrey Watling Charity, SHARE Museums East and Worstead Festival.
