As a Ranger or Girlguiding Inspire member, you can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award with Girlguiding Norfolk. Some of the activities overlap with clauses in other awards, such as the Queen’s Guide Award, Baden Powell Award and Look Wider, so you can achieve even more recognition for your efforts!
There are four sections to the DofE Award (plus a fifth section at Gold level).
The length of time taken to complete the award varies at each level. For the volunteering, physical and skill sections you need to spend an average of one hour per week. You have until your 25th birthday to complete the award.
The DofE Award is an internationally recognised achievement. It looks fantastic on job, college and university applications because you demonstrate valuable skills and attributes, such as commitment, confidence, teamwork, leadership, fitness and navigation.
“Completing my DofE Awards as taught me that the challenges you face along the way are only temporary, but the success and achievement lasts a lifetime! My DofE programmes have helped mould the person that I am today. I can’t even imagine what I’d be doing today had I not taken part; I wouldn’t have the friendships I’ve made, I wouldn’t have had so much success in employment and I most definitely would be as confident as I am today.” Tanglwyst Melville – Gold Award Holder (www.DofE.org)
