Guide International Service

In May 2020, as part of the national celebrations to commemorate the75th Anniversary of VE Day , the ARC delivered the V for Virtual  event to share what the Guide International Service (GIS) did during and after World War 2.

This was a hands-on virtual event where people could learn about how the GIS were trained, what it was like for them in the field, and have a go themselves to see if they could also meet the mark through challenges modelled on the GIS tests. There were  videos, challenges, and a chance to share what they had done.

These are now all available here for you to take part in.

The event started with preparation tasks leading up to the weekend. This was followed by initiative tasks, training tasks and a ‘game of common sense’.

Recordings made by people who had been there were available to listen to, and some Girlguiding Norfolk members made videos about International Guiding today.

The event ended with a campfire and closing ceremonies, as all good guiding events should!
