Norfolk Road Safety Quiz for Brownies and Guides (there’s a badge!)
Norfolk County Council’s Road Safety Team have kindly offered to organise a quiz for Brownies and Guides. The finals will be on Wednesday 21st March at County Hall, Norwich. There will be a final for Brownies followed by a final for Guides with drinks and light refreshments in between. Each Division may enter two Brownies and two Guides, who will be paired with another Division on the evening to make a team of four. There is no charge to enter as Norfolk County Council are covering the cost of this, but own transport must be arranged.
I have produced some activity ideas resource booklets for Units to use – see links in red on right (although one says Brownie and one says Guides Units may use activities from either). It’s not a specific challenge, just information and ideas to help the girls become more knowledgeable about road safety. Anyone taking part in any number of the activities may buy a specially produced badge whether they take part in a quiz or not – see back page of resource booklets.
Each booklet has a short quiz at the back which Unit Leaders can use. I will be producing a set of questions for Divisions to use too if they wish to hold a Division Quiz to find their Brownie and Guide entrants to the finals. I would suggest that girls entered for a Division quiz may not be solely the winners of a Unit quiz, but girls who are keen to take part and willing to learn road safety information. A PowerPoint version of each Quiz is downloadable too if Leaders have facilities to use this at their meeting place.
Two Brownie names and two Guide names (with Unit Leader details of each) should be sent to Girlguiding Norfolk County Office by Wednesday 14th March, by your Division Commissioner to be entered for the finals on 21st March. It might be handy to have a couple of names as ‘reserves’ too in case extra places are available in the final.
