Trefoil guild

Trefoil Guilds are open to everyone aged 18 and over – women and men.

Trefoil Guilds are open to everyone aged 18 and over – women and men. They are places to find friendship, give support to fellow Trefoil and Girlguiding members and get involved and active in the community. We embark on new challenges and learn new skills.

Trefoil is part of the Girlguiding family, and we aim to support them and help others by carrying the spirit of Girlguiding into our communities. Many members support Girlguiding directly by assisting or leading units, and others give support in different ways.

Our aims and objectives

  • To keep alive among members the spirit of the Girlguiding and Scout promises and laws
  • To carry that spirit into the communities in which members live and work
  • To give practical, financial and moral support to Girlguiding and Scouting

A Trefoil Guild is a group of at least six people who meet up on a regular basis to take part in different activities, listen to speakers, fundraise for different charities, learn new skills and enjoy each other’s company on walks and sharing meals together. In Norfolk we have twenty-five Guilds which meet at various times to suit their members – either weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings or Saturday mornings. Each Guild plans their own programme of activities. Our Guilds stretch across the county – from Sheringham to Diss and from Kings Lynn to Great Yarmouth. Guilds     meet in a variety of venues – church halls, local Guide Headquarters and members’ homes. One Guild’s meeting is a six-kilometre walk in the countryside followed by lunch and another Guild is for members who can’t gather for regular meetings but want to be included in the wider Trefoil family. There is also a National Internet Guild – for those who, for various reasons, can’t meet face to face.

In Norfolk we also have opportunities to meet as a county. We gather once a year for our Annual Review when we can enjoy craft sessions, join in campfire singing, go on guided walks in the area, hold our annual meeting and listen to a speaker. We hold county days in different venues so we can take part in a variety of activities such as flower arranging, painting and archery. We arrange county quizzes, outings to local gardens or houses and frequently gather to celebrate World Thinking Day. We have county holidays for members – recently Guilds have stayed in both Patteson Lodge and Hautbois.

In 2024, Norfolk hosted the Anglia Annual Review – for Trefoil members from all the region. Three hundred members from Lincolnshire to Essex, from Oxfordshire to Suffolk gathered at Thetford for a day of activities and exploring the area. The speaker was Patick Peal from the East Anglian Air Ambulance and, thanks to his inspiring talk, we raised £875 for the charity. Many of our members have also visited their Headquarters at Norwich Airport or had volunteers visit them to explain how to do CPR and use a defibrator.
